Southern Lehigh School District's 2008 School Real Estate Tax Bills
The Southern Lehigh School District's 2008 School Real Estate Tax Bills were mailed around 7/1/08. Property owners that did not receive their bill should contact our Tax Collector, Susan Gibbs, at 610-282-1266. Please note that failure to receive the bill does not entitle the property owner to a discount or remission of penalty on taxes.
Southern Lehigh School District's real estate tax payments are due
between
September 1 and October 31 of each year.
- A 2% discount for early payment is applied to net payments paid by
August 31.
- A 10% penalty for late payments is applied to payments made after
October.

Lehigh County Citizens' Police Academy
The first ever Lehigh County Citizens' Police Academy is set in
motion. The date for the first class in the 8-week course is September 23, 2008.
Each week, there will be a different topic to specialize in all aspects
of police work and how citizens can become familiar with protecting
their borough or community. This can only be achieved by the residents
of Lehigh County supporting this effort.

2008 Coopersburg 5K Run Results

Special thanks to Jennifer Wescoe-Schaninger (below) for organizing the Coopersburg Business Revitalization Program's 2nd Annual Coopersburg 5K Run. With 307 runners registered and 291 runners crossing the finish line on May 24, 2008, over $2,400.00 was raised for the regional Make-A-Wish Foundation. Thanks again to all who participated!

Interim Borough Manager Appointment
The Borough of Coopersburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Dawn Sadimas as interim Borough Manager and Borough Secretary, effective May 13, 2008.
Dawn has been with the Borough since 2006 and has an extensive background in municipal affairs (including managing Moore Township and Upper Nazareth Township). She has a strong working knowledge of Coopersburg's programs and departments.

Corps of Emergency Management Volunteers
Borough Council is seeking a group of citizens to form a corps of volunteers to help in the event of a major catastrophe or disaster in the borough.
The corps will work with and become part of our emergency management team. Training will be provided by both our local emergency management director and the Lehigh County emergency management agency. We are also seeking one or two individuals to become assistants to our emergency management director, Officer Jeffery Tapler.
We are excited about forming this very important volunteer team. Interested parties should call our borough office at 610-282-3307. Thank you in advance for your interest.

Oxford Street Reconstruction Meeting - April 21, 2008

As you know, the Borough will be reconstructing Oxford Street between
4th St. and N. Main St. We are notifying you of an informational

reconstruction, time schedules, the replacement of curb and sidewalks
and answer any questions you might have.

The Borough will be offering clean fill for anyone who desires it this construction season. The minimum amount of ill is 25 cubic yards or 5 truck loads. Municipal Authority Part-Time Secretary Opening
The Coopersburg Municipal Authority is seeking a part-time secretary to take and transcribe meeting minutes and set up agendas for their monthly meetings. The position will take approximately 2-3 hours per month and a small stipend is provided. All equipment and training is provided. For more information call 610-282-3307.

Drop-off Composting Site Hours
Starting on April 5th, the composting material drop-off site, located at the Maintenance Garage at 422 Charles Street, is open.
| Saturday hours: | 8 A.M. - noon |
| Weekday hours: | 7 A.M. - 3 P.M. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) |
| 7 A.M. - 7 P.M. (Wednesday) |
Contractors may not use the site for disposal of yard waste.
Wood chip mulch is also available to Borough residents free of charge. It is not available for contractors.
Finely ground compost for gardens or flower beds is also available for residents of the Borough. Residents may also dispose of yard waste including grass clippings and tree limbs at the yard.

2008 2nd Annual Coopersburg 5K Run and Kids Fun Run

The Coopersburg Business Revitalization Program's 2nd Annual Coopersburg 5K Run is scheduled for May 24, 2008 at 8 A.M. The Kids Fun Run starts at 8:05 A.M.
The Liberty Bell Elementary School PTA's Wellness Committee is having their Kids Fun Run immediately following the start of the 5K Run. Grades K-2 will be running at 8:05 A.M., beginning at the 5K Run starting line and ending at Coopersburg Borough Hall. It will be an (approximately) 800 meter dash and all participants will be awarded small medallions. Liberty Bell Elementary School grades 3-5 will be training in their PE class to run the 5K race. All participants will register with the 5K Run but will specify if the student will be running the Kids Fun Run.
Sports photography services will be available.
Health and Wellness Expo will be held simultaneously.
Race registration will be from March 3, 2008 through May 22, 2008.

Borough Scholarships Available
The PA State Association of Boroughs is sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship to any Borough resident who will be a freshman at an accredited College, University or School which offers a two (2) or a four (4) year degree/certificate program. This Robert C. Edwards Scholarship is for the first year (Freshman) at the College, University or School.
Scholarship payments are paid directly to the College, University or School in which the applicant is enrolled.
The deadline for submissions of the applications is May 2, 2008.
